Fate has tested Chris Madrid’s. The burger joint’s founder died in 2012, then the Peacock family bought the business in 2017, then later that same year a fire put a question mark on its future.

But now, after months selling burgers out of trailer on its Beacon Hill lot, Chris Madrid’s is back inside the building where the legend started in 1977. And the crowds are so thick that guards were directing traffic in the parking lots, and the line to order food snaked all the way to the front door. Food runners used high-tech tracking pagers to find customers in the dining room crush.

 

I can’t compare the new Chris Madrid’s to the old Chris Madrid’s, because this was my first time. But it’s already the stuff that new legends are made of.
